Tentrr is a curated network of stylish and comfortable campsites available to book across the US. Like Airbnb but for camping. Tentrr partners with land owners and builds semi-permanent campsites in secluded areas that people can book on-demand.

Tentrr specializes in fully-loaded glamping experiences but they offer 4 types of campsites to choose from, on private and public lands. When you browse locations on their website, you can filter out by Site Type which includes:

  1. Signature Sites are fully-equipped glampsites that include almost everything you need to have a great camping experience. The canvas tent and all the equipment is set up by Tentrr themselves so the experience is consistent across all signature sites.

  2. State Park Sites are Tentrr Signature Sites that are located in State Parks

  3. Partner Sites are fully-equipped glampsites on private land. The tent and equipment is provided and set up by the land owner so the experience varies and is not as consistent as Signature Sites.

  4. Backcountry Sites are bare-bones campsites for those who wish to bring their own tents and gear

In addition to filtering out by site type, you’ll also be able to filter out properties based on natural features like forest, river, or beach.

Best of all, you can filter out properties based on nearby activities like hiking, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, road biking, mountain biking, golfing, hunting, climbing, and more.

Tentrr has 1000+ campsites available to book in more than 40 states across the US.

The states where they have the most campsites available are Arizona, California, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Vermont, and Virginia.

Tentrr Pricing

Campsites on Tentrr start anywhere from $10/night for backcountry sites and go all the way up to $400+/night for signature sites.

The average cost for a fully-equipped signature site is between $75-150/night but you can book a signature site for as low as $50/night.

You can have up to 4 campers included for the base nightly rate. If you have more than 4 Campers, you may have to pay an additional fee per camper, per day, depending on the campsite.

Extras & Add-ons

During check out your host may offer additional add-ons like food, tours, activities, sports equipment, firewood, cooking gear, charcoal, bedding, and gear.

Every host offers different add-ons and every host charges differently for their add-ons, so depending whether you choose any add-ons, it might increase the total cost of your trip.

Cancellation Policy

During checkout you will see a required 15% Tentrr Fee added on to your total which is an insurance that covers you in case your plans change and you need to request a full refund.

If your plans do change, you have up until 72 hours before your check-in time to cancel and request a refund. If you cancel within 72 hours of your check-in time, you’ll only get a 50% refund.

Some campsites also give you the option to add a Rain guarantee for an additional fee which automatically reimburses you if it rains for 4 or more hours during your camping trip.

Let’s say 2 people want to camp near New York City for 2 nights and the campsite costs $125/night:

  • $125/night x 2 nights = $250

  • Tentrr’s required cancellation fee (15%) adds an additional $37.50

  • $250 + $37.50 = $287.50 total

Their iPhone app has low ratings so we suggest using their website to search for locations instead of their app. They don’t have an app for Android.

How Tentrr Works

1.) First, go to their website and search the location you want to camp. There are filters available for dates, number of campers, site type, site rating, state, activities, and natural features.

 
 

2.) Click on a listing to view more details about the site such as pricing, description, parking info, whether it’s dog friendly, check-in and check-out times, site guidelines, amenities, activities, and reviews.

 
 

3.) When you’ve decided to book a campsite, click the Book Now button, choose your dates, and then follow the steps to checkout. You’ll need to enter your contact info, choose add-ons (like firewood, activities, or food), and then enter your payment information and confirm your booking.

 
 

If you book an Instant Book site, your booking will be confirmed instantly. If your site is not Instant Book, you’ll need to wait up to 72 hours for the CampKeeper to accept your reservation.

4.) After your booking is confirmed you’ll get a confirmation email with the exact address and other important details. If you have any questions you can contact your CampKeeper in the message center. Then just show up on the day of your booking and have fun!

5.) When you checkout make sure to leave the campsite how you found it, put everything away, extinguish your campfire, and don’t leave any trash. You may be charged a cleaning fee if you leave the site a mess after you leave. After your stay, you and your CampKeeper will be asked to leave a review of each other.

Signature Sites

A Signature Site is what Tentrr is known for, fully-loaded glampsites that have everything you need to camp, set up for you and waiting for you to arrive. Just show up!

Signature Sites include partner sites and state park sites. The only campsites on Tentrr that don’t come fully-loaded with essential camping gear is backcountry sites. If you want the signature experience, just toggle the backcountry sites filter off during your search.

Tentrr’s Signature Sites include almost everything you need to camp including:

  • Waterproof canvas tent, queen bed, and a memory foam mattress

  • Propane heater, fire pit, grill, and fire extinguisher

  • Chairs, bench, table, and a trash can with garbage bags

  • Sun shower, towels, camp toilet, and toilet paper

  • Lanterns, flashlights, and a first-aid kit

  • Soap, cookware, salt & pepper, and paper towels

The only things you need to bring are: water, food, drinks, utensils, cups, plates, queen sheets, pillows, pillow cases, blanket, comforter, and towels.

Tentrr Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Signature sites include everything you need so you can have a fun time camping without the hassle of packing all the gear in and out

  • Gives you access to camp on privately owned land that you wouldn’t be able to camp on otherwise

  • Every site is unique - every host adds their own personal touches to the sites, just like Airbnb hosts

  • Every site is beautiful - every site is required to have a “wow factor” such as a water feature or nice views

  • Most sites are secluded - you won’t see any other people, tents, or buildings around you and land owners are required to have at least 10 acres in order to be eligible to have a Tentrr site

  • There are no cleaning fees unless you leave the campsite a mess

Cons

  • If you have questions about a campsite, you are not allowed to communicate with hosts directly before booking, you have to contact Tentrr support - you are only allowed to communicate directly with a host after your booking is confirmed

  • Even though signature sites are fully loaded, there’s still some things you need to bring yourself like water, food, and bedding - some hosts provide items like firewood, food, and bedding for an extra fee

  • There is a required insurance fee added on during checkout that provides you with a full refund if you cancel more than 72 hours before your trip - there is no way to opt-out of this insurance

  • Most sites don’t have cell-phone reception or electricity, but it depends on the site

Is Tentrr Worth it?

We think Tentrr is worth trying for anyone who doesn’t mind paying a premium to have a glamping site set-up for them, and it’s a good break from hotels and Airbnbs.

We had a lot of fun during our Tentrr trips and have been recommending it to friends and family.

Booking a campsite on Tentrr can get pricey depending which options you choose but we think it’s worth it for special occasions, groups, or for people who are willing to pay a little more in order to avoid the hassle of bringing their own gear (like us!).

Plus, in this day and age where campgrounds can be booked up 6-12 months in advance it’s nice having an option that allows you to book a last-minute campsite without any hassle.

And since most of American land is privately owned, Tentrr gives us access to camp on land that we wouldn’t have gotten to experience otherwise.

Not to mention you can filter properties by activities like mountain biking, fishing, and hunting so it’s perfect for people with those types of hobbies.
