Roadtrippers is one of the most popular route planner apps and it works by calculating the best route and helping you plan places to stop at along the way.
The RoadTrippers app allows you to:

Calculate estimate gas cost
Add gas stations and rest areas to your route

and more
Roadtrippers has helped users plan more than 25 million trips that cover more than 17 billion miles. We’ve gained a lot of value by using this app and we believe it can elevate anyone’s road trip.

Roadtrippers App Features
The Roadtrippers app has tons of features, but there’s a big difference in the features that the free version offers vs the paid version.
Free version
Route planner: plan short trips with up to 7 waypoints
Suggested stops: the app has travel guides and will recommend stops like hotels & unique stays, attractions & experiences, outdoors & recreation, bars & restaurants, places to camp, pickleball courts, sights & landmarks, entertainment & nightlife, auto & RV services, travel & tourism services, and shopping
Navigation: the app has turn-by-turn navigation just like Google Maps
Gas cost estimator: Roadtrippers will help you budget by estimating the cost of gas based on your vehicle’s MPG
Reviews: read reviews from other travelers about destinations along your route
Paid version (Roadtrippers Plus)
Includes all the same features as the free version, plus:
Plan longer trips with up to 150 waypoints
No ads
Offline maps
Collaborative trip planning
Custom routes based on your RV
Live traffic conditions
Discounts and deals from their travel partners
We upgraded immediately after realizing how limited the free version is.
Roadtrippers Pricing
Roadtrippers is a completely free website and app. You can use the app for free online via web browser or you can download the Android app or iOS app.
There is also a premium version called Roadtrippers Plus for those who want access to all the features. The paid version of the app costs $29.99 per year, which comes out to $2.49 per month.
We think the paid version of the app is worth much more than $29.99/year and it paid for itself after just a few days into our trip.
Roadtrippers Coupon Code
Use the Roadtrippers coupon code BTR5QTP to save $5 off Roadtrippers Plus, which means you’ll only pay $24.99 which comes out to $2.08/month. This is the biggest discount/coupon available.
Roadpass Pro
The company that made Roadtrippers, Togo, also has 3 other popular apps:
Togo RV - RV GPS app
Campendium - campsite database app
RVillage - RVer social network app
Togo has bundled all these apps into one package called Roadpass Pro and you can get access to the bundle for just $49.99/year. That’s only $20 more than getting Roadtrippers Plus by itself.

How Roadtrippers Works
To get started, first sign up for Roadtrippers. Then open their app either in a web browser or download their mobile app in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
Once you’re inside the app, follow these steps to begin planning your trip:
click START NEW TRIP
enter your departure location and final destination
the app will show you suggested stops such as attractions and landmarks along the way
click on a suggested stop to learn more about it
click Add to Trip to add the suggested stop to your itinerary as a waypoint
edit your trip settings and share editing access with your friends/family
get on the road, turn on navigation, and start your trip!
After you have your waypoints added, the app will show you all the info you need to plan your trip such as expected traveling time, expected mileage, and expected gas cost.
You need the Plus membership to filter and modify your itinerary according to your preferences. There’s options to avoid things like tunnels, ferries, dirt roads, and highways. You can also enter your RV length, width, height, and weight.
We were pleasantly surprised how easy the web app and mobile app are to use and we can tell they’re put a lot of effort into creating a sleek and modern designed app that’s intuitive and easy to use.
Roadtrippers Reviews
The app has tens of thousands of positive reviews on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, with a rating of 4.0 - 4.7. And their support team responds to every review, which we thought was nice.
Roadtrippers Alternatives
There’s many alternative trip planner apps, and here’s the most popular ones:
RV Life Trip Wizard: RV-specific trip planner app
Wanderlog: travel planning app for vacations & road trips
inRoute: intelligent road trip route planner app
Tripit: itinerary planner and flight tracker app
After trying all these route planning apps, we decided that Roadtrippers was the best fit for us because it had the most features. Depending on your needs, you may prefer one app over the other so it’s best to try these apps to see which is the best one for you.

Roadtrippers Pros & Cons
Pros:
Easy to use - the app makes has all the right features that make it easy to plan a road trip. One of our favorite features is being able to plan an itinerary with friends and family by sharing access with them
Feature-packed - info about estimated gas cost, attractions and stops along the way, traffic conditions, safety info, visitor reviews, offline maps, plus dining and hotel discounts all right in the app
Suggested stops - the app is packed full of information about stops along the way including tourist attractions, landmarks, hidden gems, visitor centers, rest areas, travel guides, and more
Cons
It’s not free - the free version of the app only allows trip planning up to 7 waypoints which is like nothing. The Plus version has the best features, so it’s better to start with Plus from the start. There’s also no monthly subscription option, only a yearly subscription
Best for USA travelers - even though the app has data for traveling in other countries, the app is primarily built for USA and Canada travelers. If you’re outside the US, try the free version first to see if it’s a good fit for your needs
Could be better - as with any app, there’s always room for improvement - but it’s gotten us where we need to go and they’re constantly adding new features and making improvements all the time. Plus they’re very open to feedback and they respond to every review on the app store.
Is Roadtrippers worth it?
After trying all the different road trip planning apps, yes, we would say Roadtrippers is one of the best if not the best route planning app. And at $29.99, it’s an affordable price to try it for a year.
The free version has all the features you need to get started with planning a trip but you may quickly find yourself needing to add more than 7 waypoints, which requires an upgrade to the Plus membership.
If we could start over again, we would upgrade to the Plus plan immediately instead of starting with the free plan. The free plan was full of ads and with the Plus plan we can use the maps offline, share access with our friends to plan trips, and create custom routes based on our RV. All the best features of the app require the Plus membership.
